【architecture】建築すること。／To do architecture.

建築が建築であることの好きな理由の一つに、常にかかる重力というものに対抗（または適応）していることがあります。
また、自然科学的な力だけでなく、その建築に関わる人々の思いや意見やもろもろの社会的条件とでも呼べるような「力」も影響しているでしょう。
それらの沢山の力たちがあるバランスを保って一斉に像を結んで立ち上がってきたものを建築ととらえています。

建築を評価するには、その建築の中で体感するものを総動員して議論するのが一番だと思っています。
雑誌に掲載される写真などではそのスケール感や温度のような、匂いのような、いわゆる体感されるべき要素が削ぎ落とされると思うからです。

最近、知人の建築家が「人の営みを設計するのが建築である」といわれました。まったく同感でした。
東京で人気が出ているという、細部にこだわった、しかも人にやさしいオーダー家具製造会社の若い代表は家具で「団欒の風景を提案する」そうです。
建築することとはその場における物語を視覚だけに頼らずにイメージし、あらゆる力のバランスを保持しながら人の営みの舞台をつくることとも言い換えられるかもしれません。

そしてそう言い換えられるならそれは、図面を描かなくても建築できるアプローチのひとつになり得るのではないかと思うのです。

I am able to give one reason why I like that architecture is what is meant to be. And it is that I see the architecture is always against the gravity and/or always adapted to it. I also see that it reflects not only natural scientific powers but also many forces of humans who are involved with it and of social circumstances.
Architecture seem to be the structure of images created by all powers related get and kept balanced somehow.

I would recommend when you try to evaluate the architecture, you should be inside and feel whatever is there around you and discuss with others.
Photographs of those may not convey the sense of scale, the temperature, and the smell of it, i.e. the elements of what you feel through your body.

I totally agreed when an architect I know said that he designs peoples activities, not lines and walls.
I read the article of furniture maker getting very popular now in Tokyo, telling he proposes a scenery of warm and intimate family space with his furniture.

Then it might be said that doing architecture could be placing a stage of the humans' activity from the story not only through the visual images but through other senses as well with any forces found there balanced.

Then it could be another approach of doing architecture without preparing precise drawings of it.
